Opened in 1990 by three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet| Friendly Manor is a drop in center and residence for homeless women. As of September 2016| it is a program of St. Marys Center and we are happy to continue this vital program that has been a beacon of light for women in West Oakland. The Dropin Center provides a safe haven for 60 to 70 women daily| providing breakfast and a simple lunch most days as well as laundry and shower facilities. We work to assist women in taking the next step| however small| toward a better life. We also host Transitional Housing| for 25 formerly homeless women as they work towards securing independent housing. Participants pay a portion of their income for housing and buy their own groceries. They learn how to live with others| share kitchen space| a common living area| and participate in regular house meetings. Everyone has a case manager and is working on an individualized program to move their life forward.
